The Program and Process

Application Process

The Focus Program selects students by online application only and accepts up to 32 students per cluster.  Incoming first-year students usually apply to the Focus Program during April and May.  Spring semester applicants (first-year and sophomore students) apply during September and October of the fall semester.

The online application for Fall 2009 clusters will open April 1, 2009.  The application deadline is May 26, 2009.  On June 15, 2009, all applicants will be notified of their placement status.

The online application for Spring 2010 clusters will open September 1, 2009.  The application deadline is October 18th.

Apply Now

The application process is simple.  In the online application, you will select four clusters (including course preferences) and answer a one to two questions about your interest in the clusters.  You are not guaranteed placement in these clusters or courses; however, your preferences will help us make placement decisions.  You will not choose a discussion course because, if accepted to the cluster, you will be automatically enrolled in this course.

Instructions for Online Application

Consideration of all applicants begins immediately following the application deadline.  Applications are not considered on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Selection decisions are made by the Focus Program faculty committee.

Withdrawal

All changes to course enrollments are subject to approval by the Focus Program.  You may not add or drop your Focus Program courses during the regular add/drop period.  Please contact the program coordinator if you wish to change your course schedule.

Withdrawal from the Focus Program is discouraged after registration has been completed and withdrawal during the add/drop period is not allowed.  Students who want to withdraw must discuss this decision with the program coordinator.  Please contact the program coordinator for an appointment if you wish to withdraw from the program.
